A wonderful 1950s vintage Timor desk lamp, designed by Louis Kalff for Philips Lighting. 

This distinctive desk lamp has a tall profile and features duel bulb and switch. Aluminium and chrome is used for the manufacture of the  shade and base are finished in a matt black lacquer. The Timor lamp design was a ‘special’ production to present at the World Exhibition.

The light design is very emotive of the era

Louis Kalff (1897-1976) was a pioneering industrial designer in the Netherlands during the first half of the 20th century.

With a solid background including studies in furniture design, sculpture, ceramics and architecture, Louis began his employment in 1924 at Phillips, consumer electronics company in the marketing department. In 1929 Louis set up the design department for lighting products, and was later appointed to oversee the design for  the lighting sections of the World Exhibitions in Barcelona, Antwerp and Paris. Louis created the Timor desk lamp during his years as Head of the Lighting Sections of the World Exhibitions in Barcelona, Antwerp and Paris for Phillips.

The lampshade is made of aluminium lacquered in a matt black finish

The arm is made of a chromed steel rod fixed to the base which is lacquered in a matt black finish.

The original switches are located on the base. The lamp takes two Edison screw (screwfit) bulb.

The Timor desk lamp is in a good vintage condition and in working order. The lampshade, chrome metal arm and base are all in good vintage condition. There is minimal age related patena as one would expect but not does detract from the overall design and impact this wonderful vintage desk light.
